We understand that the well-being of students, families, teachers, and staff is a top priority right now as the world adjusts to the uncertainty related to the coronavirus. These are challenging times in Ontario, across Canada, and around the world. Please know that Virtual Elementary School is committed to supporting students and families during this difficult time.
Accessing education
Over 860 million students around the world are experiencing education disruption right now. When students are unable to attend a physical school due to circumstances, such as those surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we can help them continue their education with curriculum-aligned, online elementary courses. VES students can learn from home independently or with the support of a certified teacher.
Our mission
We offer learning at the speed of life. Our flexible online courses engage and motivate elementary learners by adapting to their individual needs. We empower students, parents, and learning coaches with courses fully aligned to the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. Our course content reflects the cultural diversity of Canadian communities, and we are committed to upholding a culture that champions respect, integrity, perseverance, and joyful learning.

Students deserve to enjoy their education. When students come to love learning it leads them to future success. We believe that success and achievement are driven by curiosity and the pleasure of pursuing new skills and knowledge. Students enjoy their education more fully when given the opportunity to move at whatever paces suits their needs and abilities. We believe this student-centred approach to education can not only unlock the tremendous potential in every student, but also inspire a love of learning that propels young students through secondary education and beyond.
Enjoy teaching
Students thrive that much more when parents and learning coaches enjoy themselves. We make it easier for home educators to enjoy the experience of teaching. Our comprehensive lessons, assessments, and assessment tools allow you to seamlessly teach and track student progress. That means you are free to enjoy the special experience of guiding a child through the early and intermediate steps of their learning journey.
Facilitated learning
We offer support beyond outstanding content and tracking tools. Those who register for a facilitated course enjoy the added support of a certified teacher. The course itself is no different, but we provide a teacher who answers course-related questions, marks activities and assignments, provides detailed feedback, and submits progress, midterm, and final reports. For many VES parents, certified support means greater peace of mind.
Growth mindset
Never a failure, always a lesson—that’s what we believe. We encourage students to view mistakes as a natural part of problem-solving, and as opportunities to learn. By modelling self-monitoring skills and an overall positive attitude even, and importantly, when mistakes are made, we aim to instill in our students the belief that, with effort, they can improve and succeed at any task.
Intrinsic motivation
Our courses are designed to spark curiosity and motivate students in their own learning. We believe that if the teaching is relevant to the student, and if we can inspire confidence, students will be set up for future success. To this end, we foster feelings of accomplishment to boost confidence, promote feelings of equity among students, and provide opportunities for students to apply newly acquired skills in meaningful ways.
