The Ministry of Education recently released a new math curriculum for Grades 1–8. This new curriculum will be introduced in September 2020. The revised curriculum incorporates new content across the grades, including fundamental math concepts to build a strong foundation for future learning.
VES will offer courses aligned with the new curriculum. Here’s what students will be doing in the new courses:
Connecting math to everyday life
Students see the math they are learning in everyday, real-world contexts, including through opportunities in developing skills in coding, exploring finances, and creating infographics.
Examining real-life situations through coding
Students begin building a foundation for coding in Grade 1, developing problem-solving skills and understanding the applications of coding in various mathematical contexts.
Developing a foundational understanding of finances
A financial literacy component has been integrated into each grade to develop students’ understanding of managing finances, making informed financial decisions, and their role in the local and broader economy.
Building confidence in mathematics
Through developing social-emotional learning skills, students recognize mistakes as opportunities for learning and use tools and strategies to see themselves as capable math learners ready to tackle challenging problems.
Our updated courses will be available September 8th, 2020. You can learn more about the new Ontario math curriculum here.
